Dear Church Family,

Thank you for your prayers and financial support for our Children’s Camp. Without your help, we could not have gone. Thanks to Mike Cannon and Scott Long for giving up a week’s vacation, and to other leaders and Leaders in training, who helped in different ways. Last fall, we began planning summer camp for 20-25 children/leaders. We ended up with a total attendance of 43 (counting Brother Rick!).

It was a good week, and God lead and blessed us tremendously. Each day following breakfast, we would have Bible Study. Every evening following dinner, we had Bible study. The day was filled with various activities and teaching moments. (No cartoons, internet, MP3 players, or video games). I was prepared to lead a Discipleship program for children, but God had different plans. He impressed upon me this: You cannot disciple those who aren’t disciples (followers of Christ). A discipleship program is a GREAT TOOL-to help Christians grow spiritually, but generally does not teach salvation. Using basic Bible stories we taught the definition of Christian, Sinner, Repentance, Baptism, and Testimony.
I seldom give a public invitation to children because they tend to be people- pleasers and friend-followers. We let the Holy Spirit lead each one to come to us as individuals at the time of their choosing with questions and requests. As a result, the following decisions were made: 3 younger students and 1 LIT (Leader in training) accepted Christ as their Savior, 1 Adult, 1 LIT, and 4 students for rededication, and 11 decisions were made for baptism. We were blessed to witness 8 of those 11 follow through with their decision for baptism on Sunday evening. Children’s Camp, as with most ministries, takes a lot of time, energy, and money. I believe it is well worth the sacrifice.

The children need someone to listen as they recite their Bible verses, and this does not require you to be here for the full two hours. If you are interested in serving Jesus through Awana, please contact Dianne Cannon at 635-3603.
